The neighborhood in old times was called “le Gros Caillou” due to a huge boulder which was a part of Paris’ fortification wall. Although the boulder was removed by Haussmann, the Gros Caillou remains a vibrant community comprised of some of Paris’s most famous shops, restaurants and attractions. It is also well known for being one of the safest and most chic areas of the capital.
